MARKED and BETRAYED

"Zoey!" This time Heath's eyes were fluttering open. He moaned again and his hand moved down to the hard lump in his pants and he began to -
Well at least my friends didn't know what a bloodlust-filled hornie freak I was turning into.
I wanted Heath.
I needed Erik.
I was intrigued by Loren.

As you can see, this is NO Twilight series folks. I have read two books by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast. The first in the series is Marked. Betrayed is number two. I can't really tell if I like the series yet or not, but I keep reading to see if it gets better. After the Twilight saga I am hooked on vampire books...well, I am trying to be. I am sure it is going to take a very special book for me to like it as much as Twilight.

Although it definitely makes up for the HOTNESS that the Twilight series lacks, it is also a very immature read. I had a really hard time getting into Marked because I felt the authors really overdid the personality traits of a sixteen year old girl. She often refers to another character as a "Hag bitch from Hell". Once or twice would be okay, but it is probably stated at least twenty times between the two books...we get it already.

The books also move very fast. Betrayed is 300 pages and everything happens in the course of about 3-4 days. The series is supposed to be about a special fledgling (newly "marked" vampire), Zoey, adjusting to her new life at the House of Night (a special school for fledglings). She is only a freshman at the school and after book 2 she still hasn't even been there for a month. Book 1 is right around Halloween and book 2 takes place in mid-November.

I have to admit that it finally sucked me in after 500 pages. When I got to the last 100 pages of Betrayed I couldn't put the book down. I am now eager to start book 3. There are 6 books total thus far. Zoey is not considered a "real" vampire until she graduates from the House of Night. At this rate it is going to be a twenty book series ;)

  1. There's a new show on the CW called the Vampire Diaries - if you haven't already, you should check it out. The first episode was last Thurs and the 2nd is tonight. The first one was pretty good. It's also based on books, and I think I'm going to read them as soon as I can get my paws on them. Keep me posted on these books you're reading too, because I am also looking for my post-Twilight fix. :)
