Nicholas Can Ride

After seeing how well Nicholas can ride his scooter I knew he was ready to learn how to ride a bike. A friend had given me some good advice. She told me to take the training wheels off of his old bike and have him learn on it. It is a lot smaller and he can easily put his feet on the ground if he gets scared. She was right…he took right off.

I added my own touch to the idea and decided that he should just hop on it at the top of a grassy hill and just coast down. Within five minutes he was ready to hop on his big bike and he was riding around our circle. He was so proud of himself. I LOVE when I can give him a good pat on the back for accomplishing something before his big brother. I think it is really hard for him sometimes to only be one step behind Blake. Not enough time elapses for us to think of it as “new” again.

I look forward to taking some solo rides with Nicholas. This may sound weird, but I have a difficult time spending quality alone time with him. He just doesn’t like to do much. He dislikes bowling, putt-putt, tennis, fishing, and shopping…Blake and I enjoy all of those things together. Nicholas has a great imagination though…that is something that I lack. So now we can possibly have something fun to do together…would love to get some Sonic with him and then cruise around at Celery Flats.

Trying to teach Blake again was a riot. Naturally, it ended in tears…even frustration on Marc’s part. That boy has NO balance. Watching him try to hop off a moving bike is one of the funniest things…it’s so hard not to laugh and boy does that piss him off. Maybe next 8 will be his magic number and he will learn next year…hopefully Aspen doesn’t learn before him.

We did manage to piss Blake off even more this evening. A thunderstorm came through while Marc was at hockey and I thought it would be fun to put up some chairs in the garage and watch/listen to it. Aspen was a little scared at first, but she quickly got used to it and enjoyed watching the rain pour down. Blake on the otherhand carried on and on. It is really hard for me sometimes to deal with it...especially when the three year old is fine.
