Jasmine

I had two requirements for the new addition to our family. First, the kitten had to be a male. Second, I wanted it to have long hair. As you can see from the name and the picture…I got NEITHER.

I do NOT like female cats…they are too bitchy and finicky. In my experience, males are just friendlier. Our last female, Chloe, got choosy about the litter box. She was fine sharing with Oreo, but she wouldn’t use the litter box anymore once we moved in with Biggles. We tried to give her a “private” litter box, but we couldn’t keep the boys out. She lives with my mom now and is very happy being the only cat at her house.

The reasoning for the long fur??? I dunno, I just think long haired cats are cuter ;) Short haired cats just have this homely look to them. Also, when cats are adults, you can see their saggy bellies easier if they have short hair. It just looks like additional fluff if they are fluffy ;) LMAO…boy, I’m not picky or anything…watch out future in-laws.

In all honestly though, I LOVE Jasmine. She has melted my heart. We picked her out at the shelter on Wednesday after school but we couldn’t bring her home until Thursday. She was definitely NOT my first choice (non-furry female) BUT it was Marc’s choice to make. I preferred this really cute black and white fluff ball (which also happened to be female…I swear, there were NO male kittens) but Marc was quick to disagree, “We are NOT getting another Oreo."

She is REALLY frisky :)

Out of the ten kittens that we saw, Jasmine needed a home the most. She was the only kitten NOT in the nursery and I think she was the smallest one (she is only 1.1 pounds). They must have had her separated so she wouldn’t get the other kittens sick. She had the worst case of conjunctivitis. Her eyes are still pretty much swollen shut, but they ARE getting better. I was so upset when I saw that she was worse when she came home on Thursday. Why didn’t they start her on antibiotics already??? She could hardly even breathe because she was so congested. We took her to the vet on Friday and even he said it was one of the worst upper respiratory infections he has seen. Her breathing has gotten much clearer…she can even meow now.

Aspen came up with the name Jasmine (my name suggestions were vetoed as well). I don’t know where she picked it up from…she LOVES princesses, but hasn’t even seen Aladdin. I preferred a name that resembled fall (especially because her coat resembles the fall leaves)…Autumn, Apple, Ginger, the list could go on and on. Hell, I would have settled for Ariel…at least she had red hair. The name is wearing on me though and we have all agreed to call her Jazz for short.

This kids ADORE her...she is always in one of their arms.

We had another GREAT weekend with the Hedeman’s…we got to enjoy their company on Friday AND Sunday. Marc and I ended up having a wonderful date night Friday for not having any plans. Usually, we do whatever I want to do, but I just didn’t feel like planning anything this week. We ended up making a late run to Best Buy and having a fantastic last minute dinner at the Chop House. After dinner, we stopped by Center Ice so Marc could check on some things. I had a nice stiff drink and got to drunk dialing ;) Meredith was on the same path so we decided that I might as well talk Marc into bringing me over. We ended up having so much fun with Meredith, Jay, Jen, and Ryan.

On Saturday, Marc let the kids invite a couple of friends to test out Pirates Island, the new water park that SWAT will be managing. The kids appeared to have a great time. Blake also got to have some friends over throughout the day (Eloise and Jaxson). It was a hoot taking five kids around…what a litter. After everyone went home, the kids and I just enjoyed a nice relaxing evening snuggling on the couch.

Meredith cooked dinner for us on Sunday as a birthday gift to Marc. He LOVES her corned beef so she offered to cook him reubens per his request three times. They were so yummy. We spent most of the afternoon over there. Marc, Mer, and Henry got into a little tennis debate...that was awkward BUT entertaining. We all went for a nature walk so they could cool off. I LOVE fall days like this. The air feels so brisk and fresh BUT the sun is out...soon it will be gone for months. Aspen usually gets a makeover at the Hedeman's...compliments of Eloise.
