Fourteen Hundred to Fourteen...

I LOVE this picture...the kids were so cute on the boat.

Aspen LOVED fireworks this year.

Blake got bored and complained that they were all the same.

Nicholas was super excited to bring out the Monster.

What a WONDERFUL holiday weekend. For the past five years we have had a full house and over a thousand people celebrate the 4th of July with us. I never mind the full house (I LOVE my awesome family) but I have NEVER enjoyed the big event at our house :( But I finally got my wish this year :) And it was the complete opposite...only a select few (some of my favorite few :) just relaxing and enjoying eachother's company.

We actually started celebrating the night before at Casey's parent's cottage on the lake. Being at their place really had Marc and I dreaming of our own cottage. Their place was just so sweet and relaxing. And having a boat is so much fun. Casey played captain and took a group of us out on the boat to watch the fireworks out on the water. Seeing all the boats on the lake was almost as beautiful as the fireworks. Of course it made Marc regret not having his "own" fireworks show.

It was the coldest 4th of July I can remember. It didn't leave room for much outdoor fun, but with great friends like Meredith and Shannon you can't help but enjoy even a gloomy day ;) At one point some of us were getting restless (Marc specifically) and debated whether to go out and do something. The kids didn't have the same problem, they were completely occupied, but the adults were having a hard time adjusting to such a "quiet" holiday. We asked the kids if they wanted to go to the movies or mini-golfing...they were not for it. Blake and Henry were too busy fishing while Nicholas and Eloise were picking up where they left off last year with their sweet summer fling ;) The pool wasn't an option because the grill got left on so we were out of propane and with such a cold week the pool and hottub were completely undesirable. So Meredith and I sent Marc and Jay out to buy badmitten, bags, and a frisbee.

Once Marc returned with all the goodies the fun of the day started. All of the kids played so well together. I love moments where they are around, but we all kinda do our own thing. Life with three is so much easier this summer. I think age three is the magic number :) Marc had a couple glasses of wine and let loose a little (I love it when he just chills out and rests his brain a little). The guys made us some yummy steak and crab legs. I made my special cheesy potatoes (they are a must with Meredith). I almost forgot about our amazing lunch. Meredith treated us to her famous corn beef sandwiches. Marc LOVES them soo much he wishes she could be his personal assistant and make them for him once a week. She is one of the best cooks I know.

When it started to get dusk we let the kids do fireworks. We just had one of those big box assortments, but the kids loved taking turns picking out their special firework. Henry lit them for us. Blake did get bored towards the end and complained that they all look the same. Then Nicholas came out with the monster firework and we all oooed and awwed. Then the guys made us a cozy fire and made a sweet circle around it so the kids (and I of course :) could have s'mores. I LOVE SMORES!!! It really was a sweet holiday :)
